Please note: Registration closes at 12:00 pm the day before the event. If you miss the registration deadline, you can watch on-demand following the event.

This educational activity provides a focused review of cardiac arrhythmias with an emphasis on atrial fibrillation and related rhythm disorders. Participants will explore cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology, types of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, and the clinical implications of arrhythmias including stroke risk and treatment strategies. The session highlights the critical role of precise provider documentation in supporting accurate ICD-10-CM code assignment, risk adjustment, and quality reporting.

Special emphasis is placed on CDI and coding considerations, including classification of arrhythmias as CC or MCC conditions, proper code assignment for different atrial fibrillation subtypes, documentation pitfalls such as use of nonspecific terminology, and application of Coding Clinic guidance for complex scenarios such as pacemakers, conduction blocks, and anticoagulation use.

After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Assign the most specific ICD-10-CM code for atrial fibrillation by distinguishing between paroxysmal, persistent, long-standing persistent, and permanent types based on provider documentation.

  • Identify when atrial fibrillation documentation is insufficient and recognize the need for clarification when non-specific terms are used.

  • Accurately capture CC and MCC conditions related to arrhythmias, including appropriate classification of atrial fibrillation subtypes, atrial flutter, and ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Apply Coding Clinic guidance to complex arrhythmia scenarios, including cases involving pacemakers, conduction blocks, and multiple coexisting rhythm abnormalities.
